We have been having problems with a computer at work, and our svchost.exe is all messed up. bottom line, i plan to reformat it to get rid of the headache, but i need to save files from the profile that was damaged most (unable to access anything from inside the profile). THE PROBLEM im facing is that when i tried to put the HD into another comp to access the files i needed to save. turns out windows denies my access to a passworded account even though its not in its original computer. ive tried to change the ownership from this computer, but i dont get the security tab when i press advanced.. is there any way i can get around this ''access denied'' error??? i appreciate all the help. i will award full points and best answer to anyone who can help me in the next half hour. thanks alot.
How can i access files from a damaged user account on another computer in windows xp?downloads
The sids for the old machine are blocking you, even creating the same user will not work as the sid will not match. Log in as administrator, you can then take ownership of the whole of the D: (or whatever) drive, set it to pass inherited permissions. Only administrator can do this. You will then be able to copy the files to your own drive and set their security correctly.
