Is it necessary to have a spyware program on your computer?

I currently have the mcafee internet security suite installed on my computer. It has virus protection, firewall, and privacy service. I would like to know if I need to also get some type of spyware protection, or is what I have enough???

McAfee's Internet Security Suite 2007, according to their website, does have a built-in spyware protection, so you should be OK. I would say you are fine for basic computer protection.

However, many tech-savvy types recommend multiple protection sources. The reason is that not all programs are updated with the same profiles/information equally, and where, say, McAfee misses something, SpyBot or AVG might catch it. The usual recommendation here is, go ahead and use McAfee as you have it, but also D/L another fairly reliable one. You can use AVG's anti-spy tool, which is free, or SpyBot, also free. Both are pretty good, and they will complement your protection. You don't need to keep them ''resident''... just let them sit on your HD somewhere and every so often, run them manually so they catch anything that your regular protection did not.

McAfee antivirus is one of the worst antivirus systems on the market, next to Norton AntiVirus is one of the largest system hogs! Now to your original question, yes it is imperative that you have a spy ware detection program on your system. Do a google search for spy bot search and destroy load this program. If you're McAfee antivirus system is a trial version, delete it out of your system, do a google search for the AVG, install this program. Good luck! Both of these programs are free!
To be honest with you, 2 years ago I would have said no, but now... Yeah, you do need one. Don't just download something that claims to be a good one off the computer, go with a bigger named brand, unless you really know what you're doing. I've got ATT yahoo DSL, and it comes with it's own, which works great for me.
